Tones vs Flat Pages

Okay,I'm not sure what I'm trying to do by posting such an entry,but everytime I'm toning the pages this question is echoing on my mind and I'm telling myself that I'd do a journal about it,but later I give up...So I'm finally doing it.
Am I actually just spending my time messing the pages up?
Whenever I'm toning,I constantly think:
-I'm using way too much tone and making the page suffocate.(which is more of a fact than just a thought)
-The page looks boring and it's becoming harder for the reader to get a grasp of the surrounding.(especially the corridor scenes)
-I should just leave the page untoned.

How can you make a link attached to a word?
Last night,it really irritated me how unorganized those 'next' , 'previous' , 'first' button were.I wanted to ask how I could make it so that the viewers could directly click on the word "Next" to get to the next page rather than the word link in Next:[link]
And I kind of wanted to take down that 2-year old previous journal entry.For some change haha XD
